All About Drawers and Shelves

Offering easy-access storage for all kinds of household and personal items, drawers and shelves are smart tools to use in a closet system.

Drawers and shelves are two key ingredients of a well-organized closet and the clever storage choice for many items in your home, allowing you to create multiple levels of storage.

Drawers are a great solution when you want easy access to something in your closet, but not have it on display all the time. Shallower drawers are ideal for jewelry, while deep drawers can store your rolled t-shirts and folded sweaters.

You can keep your lovely lingerie neatly sorted and easily accessible on drawer with the organizers.

5 Steps to Organizing Your Closet

No matter what kind of closet you're planning, take the time to think ahead and really consider what you need to store and where you want to store it. Taking a hard look at what you have will help you understand the kind of storage you need.

Step One Designate a staging area and empty your closet out.
Step Two Organize items into specific categories and take inventory.
Step Three Eliminate items that don't belong in that particular closet.
Step Four Remove unwanted items. This might be the most difficult part of the closet planning process.
Step Five Clean the closet itself. If you find your closet walls have mildew or mold after you remove items, have a professional examine your walls and properly clean and paint them.

Clever Organizers: Can the Clutter

Tin cans are tiny containers just waiting to be put to organizational use. To recycle them into versatile storage, all you need is your imagination and a clean-edge can opener.

Turn pretty pie-filling cans into a piece of folk art that doubles as a cooking utensil holder. Bolt three eye-catching blueberry cans to a wooden cutting board with a frame hanger on the back. Display your clever work on the wall near the stove, and you'll never search for your favorite spatula again. Bon appétit!
